► RR Jenny Hitchings breaks her 3rd F55 AR at Urban Cow Half
Since turning 55 on July 1, Jenny Hitchings has been on quite a tear taking down three F55 American Records. On 8/11 she broke USATF Masters Hall of Famer Shirley Matson’s 18:32 5K mark from 1997 at the Carlsbad 5000 with an 18:05 set at the Susan B. Anthony Women’s 5K, on 9/9 she took down S. Rae Baymiller’s (another USATF Masters Hall of Famer) 10 Mile record set at the Crim Festival in 1998 with a 1:01:20 at the Buffalo Stampede, and yesterday, at the Urban Cow Half Marathon, she took down another Shirley Matson record (1:23:09 – 1996) with a terrific 1:21:18 (chip time – useable for Masters records). Three records, all over 20 years old, set by Masters Hall of Fame greats, broken in less than two months without leaving Sacramento, now that’s efficacy.

Start of the Men’s 50-54 1500M

Tom LeGan, from the Strawberry Canyon Track Club, represented the loaded men’s 50-54 age group. He battled his way to a bronze medal (4:17.62) in arguably the most competitive men’s 50-54 1500 field in meet history. See video below.

Below are what I believe are the Pacific results from the WMA Championships in Spain. Their results presentation was not exactly the best (no composite results for field events, mixed age-divisions in some of the non-stadia events, no composite results for individual events based on performances in 1st round and semi-finals, etc.)
CLICK HERE to view a composite list of USATF Pacific members list.
- 43 athletes in a total of 104 events.
- 5 individuals (all women) won a total of 6 individual world titles plus one relay title.
- 4 silver medals
- 8 bronze medals
Report from Carl Rose:
Two fine athletes became medalists at the World Masters Association’s IAAF Championships in Malaga, Spain, which took place between Sept. 4th through the 16th. Joy Upshaw from Joy’s Jackrabbits Track Club, put on a dominant performance and snared two gold medals in the 200-meter dash as well as 4 x 400 relay (pending WR). She also claimed bronze medals in the women’s 55-59 100-meter dash and 80-meter hurdles.
