► XC IMPORTANT: XC GP Championships – Transfer of Race Bibs
Because of date change of PA XC some runners may want to transfer from one runner to another.
Race day only—
Go to Pre-reg, give the worker the name of person who is being replaced. Worker will find race bib for person being replaced, they will invalidate that race bib, putting an “x” over it and setting it aside so no one uses that bib number!
They will then give the new runner a new reg form, which the new runner will fill out and hand in, they will get a brand new bib number which has only their data associated with it.
DO NOT RUN WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S RACE BIB!!
New runner works out payment for entry with the other runner, they do not pay anything at race (it’s been paid for by other, original, runner).
Happy running!
► RR Clarksburg 2018: Prize Money, No Points
Unfortunately, the Clarksburg Half Marathon will not be scored for the 2018 Road Grand Prix, neither individually nor team. However, Clarksburg is still awarding the individual and team prize money. The PA encourages our athletes to participate. Clarksburg has been rescheduled for Jan. 13, 2019.
► XC 2018 XC Grand Prix individual scoring championship modified
Because of the last-minute, unexpected schedule change to a holiday weekend for the PA XC Champs race, some individuals may not be able to run it. Therefore, for this year, the individual Grand Prix scoring will be modified to score the top 6 races, rather than the top 5 + the Champs race.
Team scoring will be kept as top 5 + Champs.
► XC PAUSATF XC Championships rescheduled for Sun. Nov. 25, 2018
The USATF Pacific XC Championship has been rescheduled for November 25 at the same Golden Gate Park location as the cancelled Nov. 18 event. Check back for additional details.
► XC PAUSATF XC Championships on Sunday Nov. 18, 2018 postponed
As of Thursday, Nov. 15 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPI) forecast the Air Quality Index for race day to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. The EPI defines this as follows:
• Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. When AQI (Air Quality Index) values are between 101 and 150, members of sensitive groups may experience health affects, but the general public is unlikely to be affected.
• Ozone: People with lung disease, children, older adults, and people who are active outdoors are considered sensitive and therefore at greater risk.
• Particle pollution: People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children are considered sensitive and therefore at greater risk.
1 Due to the normal aging process, older adults may experience increased health risks from exposure to unhealthy air. Studies indicate that some people become more sensitive in their mid-60s. However, the risk of heart attacks, and thus the risk from particle pollution, may begin as early as the mid-40s for men and mid-50s for women.
As a result of worsening air quality, the PAUSATF XC Championships race scheduled for Sunday November 18, 2018 has been postponed. We want to thank you for your patience as we worked through this decision.
The LDR is looking into whether this race can be held on a different date. The Race Director’s preferred date would be 11/25 (a postponement of one week). Other possible dates we are exploring are 12/30, 1/6, or 1/20. Your input is always appreciated. We will communicate our decision on postponement or cancellation as soon as possible.
► XC PA XC Champ. is on until air quality updates, 1pm Friday.
The USATF Pacific Association Cross Country Championship is on. It is expected to be run without changes because of expected improvements to air quality.
However, the LDR committee is aware that current air quality may get worse than predicted. The factors are ever-changing, and we are watching. As of now, the meet is on. The predicted Air Quality Index for Sunday in San Francisco is Orange (less than 150). We will make a final decision by 1:00pm on Friday. If at that time the predicted Sunday AQI remains below 150, we will run the race. If the predicted AQI for Sunday rises above 150, we will cancel. The decision to go ahead as planned or possibly cancel will be posted on the official PAUSATF website after 1pm on Friday.
