USATF Volunteers Safe Sport Policy

SAFE SPORT POLICY: The U.S. Center for Safe Sport is an independent nonprofit committed to building a sport community where participants can work and learn together free of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and misconduct. As a volunteer, you have an important role to play in creating a safe and positive environment for young athletes whose lack of power or authority puts them at risk for being abused. The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) were developed to help prevent abuse by limiting one-on-one interactions between Adult Participants and Minor Athletes.

Volunteer roles listed as Safe Sport are required to complete the Safe Sport registration/background screening/training listed in the disclaimer below. Volunteer roles requiring Safe Sport registration/background screening/training are listed with Safe Sport in the name of the volunteer role (ex: Medical – safe sport required OR Athlete Escort – safe sport required). If you are not comfortable with the Safe Sport registration/background screening/training process listed below, please do not sign up for volunteer roles with safe sport required listed in the name.

Safe Sport registration/training: Certain volunteers working directly with minors under the age of 18 years will be asked to complete a three step Safe Sport registration/training process. To best protect our athletes, USATF requires:
1) a current USATF membership
2) a current USATF background screen conducted by USATF’s third-party background screening provider
3) current SafeSport training completed within the last 365 days available on USATF Connect

The Safe Sport registration (USATF membership/background check) and training process are completely FREE and will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete.
