The Pacific Association’s Para Athletics Committee was established in 2012. Prior to 2012, this Committee was referred to as the Disabled Athletes Committee and chaired for many years by Charlie Sheppard. In 2014, under the leadership of the current Chair George Rehmet, and Charlie Sheppard, this committee was responsible for bringing the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field Championships to the Pacific Association.
Para Athletes compete in Track & Field Paralympic events, which include track sprints and distance events, field events of throwing and jumping, and the marathon. Learn more by visiting the Track & Field page of Team USA.

► PA Open-Masters TF Championships postponed – updated 4/7
Unfortunately, our 2020 PA MTF/Open Championships Meet has been postponed until a later date to be determined, per the USATF COVID-19 Working Group recommendation “Suspend all USATF Championship events and all USATF sanctioned events indefinitely.”
Ideally, it will occur with a month of notice, and before our MTF Western Region and National Championships. But these are unusual times, so we are unsure of what will be legally allowed, medically wise, and according to USATF guidelines.
FYI, websites for other PA MTF meets currently say:
- Bay Area Senior Games: “We are re-scheduling the meet to be held Sunday, November 15th.”
- Pride Meet: “We are currently exploring options for holding the Pride Meet later in the summer. Stay tuned for more information.“
- Wine Country 2020 Sr Games: “Due to the Corona Virus Epidemic, the 2020 Games have been cancelled.”
- SG MTF Fest: “Thank you to all the athletes who attended the 2019 4th Annual Sierra Gold Masters and Open Track and Field Festival. We look forward to seeing you again at the event this year.”
Please be safe, keep training and checking the PA/MTF page, and ensure your PA/USATF membership is current since email will be sent when more is known.
Thank you! — Joseph Ols, PA Masters Chair

► PA PA Strategic Plan 2017-2020 (Revised 6.14.19) – Check it out!
CLICK HERE to view USATF Pacific’s Strategic Plan (Revised June 14, 2019).
This document is updated with information from the March 19, 2019 Board of Athletics meeting, where the ongoing Strategic Plan was discussed and conclusions were achieved, under the guidance of the Strategic Plan Coordinator, Mark Winitz. The primary emphasis for this Olympiad is “membership growth”. There are five planning areas:
- Administration and Governance
- Athlete Development and Competition
- Communications
- Marketing and Promotions
- Resources and Education/Training
At the meeting, after breakout sessions for each planning area, the leader of each session gave a report to all the meeting’s attendees, answered questions, and accepted additional input.
Following the meeting, the leaders of each of the planning areas updated their planning area’s strategic plan and submitted the information to Mark Winitz, who then compiled all five of the planning areas’ information into this document. USATF Pacific’s Strategic Plan is a very useful document to show how PA Committees join forces to set goals for the USATF Pacific’s future. Review this document to understand how USATF Pacific plans to move forward as we approach the 2020 Olympics. If you have questions or suggestions, direct them to the “responsible party(ies)” listed for each planning area.
