BOARD OF ATHLETICS MEETING 5/14/02

1. MINUTES: Motion to approve minutes seconded and passed 3. TREASURERS’ REPORT: We are looking at a deficient this year. We need everyone's budget inputs by August 9th. The annual budget meeting will be held on August 21st. Motion to accept the Treasurer's Report of May 14, 2002; seconded and passed. 4. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS: The Board heard brief reports on the 2002 USATF National 30Km Race Walk Championship held in Sacramento, the USATF Junior & Senior Outdoor Championships to be held at Stanford, the USATF Multi-Events Championships to be held at Cal, the 2002 USATF 50Km Ultra Trails Championship to be held on August 24th at the Marin Headlands, and the 2002 USATF Fall Cross Country Championships to be held at Sierra College on December 14th. Future championships to be held in the Pacific Association include the 2002 USATF Junior & Senior Outdoor Championships at Stanford, 2003 NCAA West Regional Championship at Stanford, 2003 NCAA National Championship to be held in Sacramento, 2004 US Olympic Trials in Sacramento, and 2005 high school championship. Possible future championships include the 2004 Masters 5Km Road Championship, 2005 USATF National Masters Outdoor T & F Championship Meet (Sacramento), 2005 USATF National Indoor Championship Meet (Reno), and the 2007 WMA Meet (Sacramento). 5. GRIEVANCES: Both youth grievances and the LDR (Parrott vs. Rowden) are under appeal. 6. REPORTS: Committee reports were received. -Officials - Dick Connors reported on the Life Time Achievement Award presented to Tom Moore at a special gathering of many of Tom's friends and colleagues at the Hall of Fame Room at Cal. -Communications - Cynci Calvin reported on the new web site format. -Men's LDR - Tyler Abbott gave a brief summary of the ongoing athlete registration/eligibility issue and the association residency requirement. A task group is working on a policy to deal with this issue. -Awards - Dan Horan reported on the special recognition to be given Don Bowden at the PA Championship Meet on June 1st. It will be 45 years to the day in the same meet since Don became the first American to break the 4 minute mile. -Membership - We have 3500 members to date plus an additional 500 youth members expected.
